Du 22 au 27 novembre , en partenariat avec le CEA et l’Association des Maires de France, le laboratoire ARC-Nucléart présente au Palais de la Découverte une sélection de 10 oeuvres sauvegardées grâce aux techniques mises en oeuvre par le laboratoire.
ARC-Nucléart a été créé dans les années 1970 au centre CEA de Grenoble, après le développement d’un procédé de consolidation du bois, utilisé alors pour restaurer un parquet du XVIIIe siècle dans l’ancien Hôtel de ville de Grenoble. Le laboratoire utilise les propriétés du rayonnement gamma pour désinsectiser d’une part, consolider d’autre part des matériaux poreux à l’aide d’une résine radiodurcissable (procédé « Nucléart »). L’activité de l’atelier a été complétée, depuis, par d’autres méthodes de traitement et de restauration pour des collections archéologiques, historiques et ethnographiques.
Il y a dix ans , un concours annuel a été lancé pour sauver des oeuvres appartenant au patrimoine communal . Chaque année, les communes sélectionnées se voient offrir la restauration des objets proposés. Les oeuvres sont désinsectisées par irradiation gamma. Si nécessaire, pour la consolidation de bois très dégradé et donc le sauvetage de l’oeuvre, le procédé « Nucléart » est ensuite appliqué. En dix ans, 40 oeuvres issues de 37 communes ont été restaurées grâce aux concours, sur plus de 300 dossiers reçus.
