Chaque année depuis 1975, l’Académie des Beaux-Arts organise un concours ouvert à tous les architectes et étudiants en architecture n’ayant pas dépassé l’âge de 35 ans au 1er janvier de l’année en cours. Elle propose un thème général de réflexion sur l’architecture et l’urbanisme. Le thème pour l’année 2011 est le logement étudiant. La population étudiante en France est en augmentation constante (2,3 millions aujourd’hui) comme dans tous les pays européens et la question du logement étudiant se pose chaque année avec plus d’acuité. Le jury propose cette année aux candidats de réfléchir sur ce thème sans aucun programme préalable imposé. Ces derniers devront mener une réflexion sur la vie quotidienne des étudiants et présenter des projets susceptibles dapporter des solutions à ce problème urbanistique majeur. Le concours comporte deux épreuves dont la première est à remettre au plus tard le 3 mai 2011. Il est doté de trois prix : Grand Prix et Prix Charles Abella : 20.000 euros Deuxième Prix et Prix André Arfvidson : 9.000 euros Troisième Prix et Prix Paul Arfvidson : 4.000 euros.
