A l’occasion des 100 ans de la construction de la coupole, les Galeries Lafayette célèbrent ce monument du boulevard Haussmann, symbole de l’architecture Art nouveau, avec des événements inédits qui vont rythmer la vie du magasin à partir du 16 octobre 2012. Les Galeries Lafayette invitent deux figures emblématiques de la création contemporaine : l’architecte Rem Koolhaas – et son agence d’architecture OMA et le plasticien Yann Kersalé.
Imaginée par OMA et son unité de recherche AMO, 1912-2012. Chroniques d’un parcours créatif est une exposition qui témoigne de l’expérimentation menée depuis cent ans par les Galeries Lafayette : mêler culture et shopping sous l’emblématique coupole de vitrail édifiée en 1912 par l’architecte Ferdinand Chanut et le maître verrier Jacques Gruber. En se plongeant dans les archives des Galeries Lafayette, AMO a reconstitué une chronique des mutations de ce légendaire grand magasin. A travers l’histoire de la mode et du commerce, c’est aussi celle de la France que nous raconte cette chronologie. AMO a retenu plusieurs épisodes de l’histoire des Galeries Lafayette, décor théâtral qui sert d’écrin à l’ambition créatrice de l’enseigne, les arts plastiques ou le spectacle. La narration de l’exposition repose sur les archives de l’entreprise, enrichies de documents prêtés par des institutions. Une exposition à découvrir à la Galerie des Galeries du 16 octobre 2012 au 26 janvier 2013.
Yann Kersalé imagine en collaboration avec Djuric Tardio-Architectes, la Chrysalide, une création lumineuse réalisée sur la façade du magasin qui évoluera au fil du temps et au gré des saisons. L’artiste complète son œuvre et propose une installation pérenne dans la Coupole. Cette dernière sera mise en lumière et l’éclat d’origine des balcons édifiés par Louis Majorelle sera restitué avec les technologies du XXIe siècle, pour apporter au monument majesté et émerveillement.
Enfin, un livre publié aux éditions de La Martinière retrace l’histoire du magasin et rappelle comment ce lieu mythique a créé, au cœur de Paris, un théâtre de la mode que s’approprient Français et étrangers, et qui demeure, au fil des années, une source d’inspiration pour les artistes. Ed. de La Martinière. 200 pages. Prix public – 39,90 euros.
